a.      The ancient Greeks consider public speaking so important because it was the mean through which most people could communicate in the form of the society. For example, when someone was on trial, the person had to give a speech in the court in front of the jury to plead their case. Knowing how to speak eloquently was every important to each citizen in order to survive in that society.

a.      According to the lectures and assigned readings, the organizational patterns for public speeches are chronological, spatial, topical, cause-and-effect, and problem solution
3.      What are tips for using presentational aids according to the lectures and chapter 14?
a.      According to the lectures and chapter 14 of our textbook, tips for using presentational aids are: display visual aids only when discussing them, explain visual aids clearly and concisely, take to the audience not the visual aid, practice with the visual aid, and finally check the room and equipment before the day of the presentation.
4.      What are guidelines for ethical speaking? What are guidelines for ethical listening?
a.      The guidelines for ethical speaking are to make sure your goal are ethically sound meaning that you have good intention, honest in what you say, avoid name-calling and other forms of abusive language, and finally put ethical principles into practice. And the guidelines for ethical listening are to listen courteously and attentively, avoid prejudging the speaker, and maintain the free and open expression of ideas.
5.      What are ways to become a better listener according to chapter 3?
a.      According to chapter 3 of our textbook, some ways to become a better listener are to take listening seriously, be an active listener, resist distractions, try not to be diverted by appearance and delivery, focus your listening, and to develop not-taking skills.
6.      What are tips for organizing the first speech according to chapter four?
a.      According to chapter 4 of our textbook, chronological order and topical order are tips for organizing the first speech for they allow to create a sandwich-like outline with an intro that preview the body and the conclusion that review the central idea.
7.      What are tips for formulating the specific purpose statement?
a.      Write the specific purpose statement as a full infinitive phrase
b.      Express your purpose as a statement not a question
c.       Limit the purpose statement to one distinct idea
d.      Make sure the specific purpose is not too vague or general
